In 2014, after unexpectedly losing my job, I booked a trip to the west coast. It was there that I first glimpsed the emerging female-centric LA fashion scene. I met women creatives, not much older than myself, running their own companies and brands. It felt like the beginning of something important, and was truly eye-opening. With nothing more than a small savings account, some rough sketches, and one very game business partner (hi Patty!), I came home and decided to give my own thing a go too.
Five years later, I realize that Saylor is part of that wave. As a woman who owns her own business, employs other women, and focuses on design that celebrates women, I can now count myself among those creatives that inspired me back in 2014. The change that seemed so nascent then is now a full-blown movement. To me, the evolution is the progress achieved by women across the board- women who are no longer viewed as enigmas or outliers, but accepted as leaders, innovators and disruptors. The playing field, while certainly not level, is ever-so-slowly tilting. Our newest collection is about celebrating that subtle, but significant, deviation. It's about honoring that momentum by commemorating and empowering women through our signature beautiful, feminine design and creating pieces that encourage personal style. Additionally, we'll be shining a spotlight on our all-women in-house team and wonderful web of collaborators.
